The best Lan Ha Bay cruise is the one that actually spends its afternoon in Lan Ha, on a ship you can name before you pay, at a price that includes what you think it includes. That sounds obvious. It rules out a surprising number of listings. Some ships sold as "Lan Ha" never leave Ha Long waters on the two-day trip, and the biggest listings on the platforms hide the ship's name behind a "5-Star Cruise with Balcony" title.

So this ranking does not copy the platform scores. We looked at each ship's own itinerary, cabin count, launch year and hull where the operator publishes them, then at the review volume and today's "from" price on GetYourGuide, Klook and Trip.com. Eight ships made the list. Each one wins a category, because the best cruise for a couple on a honeymoon is not the best for a family of four or a backpacker already on Cat Ba.

One thing applies to every ship below. Kayaking in the Cat Ba bays has been under an official suspension since November 2024, re-confirmed in late 2025 (VnExpress report). Some ships offer it only in a designated area or replace it with a bamboo boat, tender or swim. If kayaking is the reason you are booking, ask the operator in writing.

Prices are per person "from" prices for the cheapest cabin on the cheapest date the platform shows, so treat them as a floor, not a quote. Most big Lan Ha cruise lines check in at Tuan Chau in Ha Long; a few boats and most Cat Ba day trips start on the Hai Phong side. Check your voucher. The full list of ships, with every platform price side by side, is in our cruise finder.

Our top four for a first Lan Ha cruise

1

Most travelers, first cruise

Steel ship from 2022 with a pool, a Lan Ha route and the most reviews of any named ship on this page.

2

Couples who want the newest cabins

All 30 cabins have a balcony or terrace and a bathtub; the official fare includes VAT.

3

Best balance of price and comfort

Sister ship of Azura from the same office and lounge, with 22 balcony or terrace suites.

4

Tight budget, named ship

The cheapest branded Lan Ha overnight on Klook, with a bamboo boat at the Dark and Bright caves.

1. Elite of the Seas: the best Lan Ha Bay cruise overall

Elite of the Seas is our pick for most people because it gets the basics right and publishes them. The factsheet is specific: launched in 2022, 85 m long, 35 cabins, 99 passengers, a steel double hull with a double bottom and an outdoor pool open all year. Every cabin has a balcony or terrace and a bathtub. Few ships in the bay give you that much hard data.

The two-day route is billed as Ha Long and Lan Ha, but the named stops are on the Lan Ha side: a swim or kayak in Ao Ech lagoon on day one and the Dark and Bright caves by rowing boat on day two. The three-day version adds a speedboat and guided cycling to Viet Hai village. There are fireworks on Saturday and Sunday nights. The shared limousine minivan from Hanoi is free, which is unusual.

Price. From $125 on GetYourGuide, rated 4.9 from more than 2,800 reviews. The operator's own rate card for a Junior Suite starts at USD 803 for two, so the platform price is the lowest cabin on a cheap date, not a typical fare. Direct booking is free to cancel until 7 days out, then 100% (policy). The official site names "the pier" without saying which; agencies say Tuan Chau. Read the meeting point on your voucher.

The sister ship Stellar of the Seas is listed on Trip.com and by agencies; see our Elite review for both ships.

2. Azura: the newest ship on the list

Azura launched in December 2025, so it is the ship to pick if you care most about fresh cabins. All 30 cabins have a balcony or terrace and an ocean-view bathtub; the two Imperial Suites (66 m²) add a private sauna. There is a 12 m infinity pool, a spa and a sky bar.

The route is pure Lan Ha once you leave Tuan Chau: Ao Ech (Frog Lagoon) on the first afternoon and the Dark and Bright caves by kayak or bamboo boat the next morning. The official fare includes VAT, entrance tickets and the service charge, which many rivals add at the end.

Price. From $176 on Klook, where it shows 5.0 from about 450 reviews. Every one of those reviews is from the first months of a new ship, so a perfect score says more about novelty than about how it will age. The official rate card starts at USD 380 per person for the entry cabin (Azura cabins), so the platforms are far cheaper on the dates they show.

Lowest adult price per person in USD, checked on October 16, 2026. Cabin type, dates and what is included differ between listings: open each one before you pay.

3. Aspira: the best value

Aspira is Azura's older sister. Both sites give the same Hanoi office, the same hotline and the same Lot 38 lounge at Tuan Chau, and the timetables are word for word the same. Aspira has 22 suites, all with a balcony or terrace, a jacuzzi pool, a spa and a gym.

The order of the day is reversed: Dark and Bright caves on the first afternoon, by kayak or a bamboo boat rowed by locals, then a morning paddle in Lan Ha on day two. Back in Hanoi around 15:00.

Price. From $146 on Klook, rated 4.9 from more than 800 reviews with over 6,000 bookings shown. The catch: Aspira's own fare excludes VAT and the Hanoi transfer, while Azura's includes VAT. Compare the total, not the headline. Klook is cheaper than Trip.com today for the same ship; cabin type and inclusions may differ.

4. La Pandora: the cheapest named ship

If you want to know which ship you are on and spend as little as possible, La Pandora is the answer. It is sold under its own name on Klook and GetYourGuide, and its guest reviews describe a bamboo boat through the Dark and Bright caves and cycling in Viet Hai village. It boards at Slot 26, Tuan Chau.

Price. From $104 on Klook, 4.8 from more than 900 reviews, against from $171 on GetYourGuide. The operator's own site starts at USD 295 from Hanoi, only USD 10 more than the "from Ha Long" fare, so the bus is cheap. There is also a "La Pandora Boutique" product on Klook from $122. The operator does not say whether these are one ship or two, so check the cabin description against your voucher.

Two policies to know: children pay the full adult fare from age 9, and there is a holiday surcharge at Christmas, New Year and Tết (Lunar New Year). The terms are identical to Hera Group's, and the same site also sells Capella.

5. Venezia: the best small boat, starting on Cat Ba

Venezia is the overnight brand on this list that starts on Cat Ba. Its boats leave from Ben Beo (bến Bèo, the harbor 2 km from Cat Ba town) and never go near Ha Long Bay. There are two of them, with 10 and 5 cabins, so you share the deck with 18 people at most.

The route goes south of Cat Ba to Coc Ngoi, Cua Dong and Ba Trai Dao beach, which is often a swim stop when access, tide and weather allow. Day two is Viet Hai village by bike or e-car. There is no cave. Cabins are simple "Deluxe" rooms with large windows; no balconies are listed. That is the trade-off for a small, quiet boat.

Price. USD 125 per person direct with Cat Ba hotel pickup, USD 145 with the Hanoi bus, plus 8% VAT (veneziacruises.com); single supplement USD 50. On GetYourGuide it is from $125 as a 2-day trip from Hanoi, 4.7 from about 870 reviews. Venezia also sells a two-day version with night plankton viewing; see bioluminescent plankton for when that works.

6. Peony and Mon Chéri: best for families

Peony and Mon Chéri are two brands of one operator, Big Bay Group. They share the No. 34 lounge at Tuan Chau and word-for-word the same itinerary. Peony runs two yachts with 40 cabins in total; Mon Chéri two yachts with 42. Every cabin has a balcony.

They suit families for concrete reasons. Peony has a rooftop pool, an outdoor jacuzzi, a kids' play area and babysitting, and 50 m² family cabins for up to five. One child under 4 sharing the parents' bed goes free. Mon Chéri advertises a halal kitchen with a certificate from the Halal Vietnam Association.

The route is different from most: a swim or paddle around Tra Bau on day one, then on day two the ship docks at Gia Luan and you ride 30 minutes by road to Trung Trang cave on Cat Ba. No Dark and Bright caves. Both brands also take guests already on Cat Ba at Gia Luan pier, for a surcharge.

Price. Peony from $174 on Klook; Mon Chéri from $192 on Klook and from $177 on Trip.com. If you come from Ninh Binh, their shuttle is USD 25 per person each way.

7. Capella: best for pools and suite space

Capella (launched August 2020, 30 cabins, Pier 20B) belongs to the Lyra Cruise Collection, with Lyra Grandeur as its sister. It has the most pools of any ship here: a heated pool and jacuzzi, an infinity pool, a floating sea pool and an inflatable waterslide. The smallest suite is 32 m², and the Owner Suite is 92 m².

The route is Lan Ha all the way: Frog Lagoon on day one, the Dark and Bright caves by rowing boat on day two, Viet Hai and Ba Trai Dao on the three-day trip.

Price. USD 490 per cabin for two, including VAT, on the official site for two days. On the platforms it is from $358 on GetYourGuide for a 1–2-night product and from $472 on Klook, which has only 20 reviews. With so few platform reviews, booking direct is reasonable here, but the full payment is due 60 days before sailing.

8. Heritage Line Ginger and Ylang: the splurge

For a very small, quiet ship, Heritage Line is the step up. Ginger (12 suites, 2018) runs the one-night Lan Ha circuit; Ylang (10 suites, 2019) runs the two-night circuit with a bus and hike in Cat Ba National Park. Neither programme lists a cave. Ginger's programme is Viet Hai by bicycle and a morning paddle at Frog Lake.

Price. Ginger from 321 USD per adult with the early-bird rate (book at least 120 days ahead), otherwise from 423 USD; Ylang two nights from 837 USD (Heritage Line itinerary). Three things to know before you pay. The fare excludes the Lan Ha admission fee (400,000 VND per adult for one night). Children under 5 are not accepted. Cancellation costs 100% inside 15 days. It is not sold on the three platforms.

Do not confuse it with Heritage Binh Chuan, a different company's ship (Lux Cruises Group, 20 suites, Lot 28B), reviewed under Heritage Binh Chuan.

The big generic listings: good reviews, unknown ship

The two most-reviewed Lan Ha cruises on GetYourGuide are not on our list by name, because they do not have one. 2 Days Ha Long, Lan Ha Bay 5-Star Cruise with Balcony (4.8 from about 6,100 reviews, from $126) and 2 Days Lan Ha and Halong Bay 5-Star Cruise with Balcony (4.7 from about 5,200 reviews, from $146) are sold by agencies who put guests on one of several ships.

They can be a good deal. But the review score belongs to the agency, not to a ship, and the ship can change between dates. Before paying, look for the activity provider's name, the pier and lot number in the meeting point, and the ship name in photos and recent reviews. If the listing says "or similar", the ship can change. Our booking guide walks through the checks.

"5-star" and "6-star" in these titles are sales labels. Vietnam's rating for cruise ships is voluntary and goes from 1 to 5 stars; "6-star" does not exist legally.

Ships we would not book for Lan Ha

These are fine ships, but not if Lan Ha is the point:

  • Arcady Boutique, two days: visits only Ha Long sights (Luon cave, Ti Top, Sung Sot). Lan Ha appears only on its three-day trip, by day boat.
  • Hera Boutique and Hera Grand, two days: Ha Long routes. For Lan Ha, Hera Group's own Amanda ships are the better choice.
  • Sunlight Legend and Cozy Bay Grand: Ha Long only. Cozy's Lan Ha product is the Tropical day cruise.
  • La Regina Classic: sails Bai Tu Long Bay from Bai Chay. The Lan Ha ship is La Regina Grand, from Lot 24 at Tuan Chau.

Since 1 April 2026 four licensed overnight routes link the two bays, so "Ha Long and Lan Ha" in a title is now legal. Read which caves are on which side; our Lan Ha vs Ha Long guide lists them.

New ships to watch

Celina of the Sea is the biggest new ship in the bay: 62 suites on six decks for 180 guests. The operating company was registered in February 2026, you check in at Lot 41A in Tuan Chau and take a speedboat to the ship anchored at Gia Luan. It has only 10 reviews on GetYourGuide (4.6, from $190), so we will rank it once the review base grows. Read our Celina review.

If you want a day on the water instead of a night, Taliya is the strongest day ship from Tuan Chau: 199 seats, a pool, launched February 2025, from $53 on GetYourGuide. Reviews older than 2025 on Taliya listings belong to an earlier product. From Cat Ba, Serenity and Beka are cheaper; see day cruises.

How to choose between them

  • Two days or three? Two days gives you one afternoon and one morning on the bay. Day two is effectively half a morning. A real three-day cruise spends the middle day on a separate day boat to Viet Hai. Many "3-day" listings are one day in Ninh Binh plus one night on the boat. See three-day cruises.
  • Pool or not? Elite, Azura, Capella and Peony have pools. La Casta ships do not.
  • Your own platform rules. GetYourGuide shows free cancellation up to 24 hours before on most listings, and many offer reserve now, pay later. Klook's rules differ per activity. Direct booking is stricter: Elite charges 100% inside 7 days, Heritage Line inside 15. That flexibility is the honest reason to book through a platform. Compare the two in GetYourGuide vs Klook.
  • Weather. Storm cancellations come from the port authority, not the cruise line. October and November are the driest months; June to November is storm season. See best time.
  • Life jackets. Since June 2026 every passenger on Lan Ha passenger boats must wear a certified life jacket from boarding and throughout the trip (Tiền Phong). Ask whether the tender is wooden or steel.

Most ships on this list check in at Tuan Chau and sail 1–1.5 hours through Ha Long waters before reaching Lan Ha. Azura, Aspira and Elite spend their bay time around Ao Ech and the Dark and Bright caves. Peony and Mon Chéri use Gia Luan for the Trung Trang cave trip. Venezia starts at Ben Beo and stays south. For transfer times from Hanoi to each pier, see piers.

FAQ

What is the best Lan Ha Bay cruise?

For most travelers, Elite of the Seas: a 2022 steel ship with 35 cabins, a pool, a Lan Ha route and the most reviews of any named ship here, from $125 on GetYourGuide. For the newest cabins pick Azura; for a small boat pick Venezia.

What is the best cruise in Lan Ha Bay for a budget?

La Pandora, from $104 on Klook with more than 900 reviews. If you are already on Cat Ba, a Venezia overnight from Ben Beo or a day boat is cheaper still. See our budget guide.

Is a 6-star cruise in Lan Ha Bay better than a 5-star?

Not necessarily. Vietnam's official rating for cruise ships stops at 5 stars and is voluntary, so "6-star" is a sales label. Compare cabin size, launch year, hull and what the fare includes instead.

Which Lan Ha Bay cruises leave from Cat Ba?

Venezia leaves from Ben Beo near Cat Ba town. Peony and Mon Chéri pick up Cat Ba guests at Gia Luan pier for a surcharge. Most other overnight ships check in at Tuan Chau in Ha Long.

Can you still kayak on a Lan Ha Bay cruise?

Kayaking in the Cat Ba bays has been under an official suspension since November 2024, re-confirmed in late 2025. Some ships offer it only in a designated area or replace it with a bamboo boat, tender or swim. Ask the operator in writing. More in kayaking.

Is the bay fee included in the cruise price?

Usually yes. Heritage Line is the exception: it excludes the Lan Ha admission fee, which is 400,000 VND per adult for one night and 600,000 VND for two.
