Hanoi: 3 Days Ninh Binh, Ha Long & Lan Ha Bay 5-Star Cruise
4.8 (2,115)
from $225Check dates
CruisesOvernight cruise · 3D2N
A Lan Ha Bay cruise of 2 nights gives you the one thing a 2D1N cannot: a full day deep in the bay, usually by day boat to Viet Hai village, a lagoon and a beach. Many "3-day" listings are really a Ninh Binh day plus one night on board, so check the itinerary before you pay.

A Lan Ha Bay 3 day cruise is the version for people who want more than a sunset and a short morning. The first and last days look exactly like a 2 days 1 night cruise: check-in around midday, one afternoon outing, dinner at anchor, tai chi, brunch and back to the pier by about noon. The difference is the day in between.
On that middle day most ships stay at their anchorage and send you out on a smaller day boat into the parts of Lan Ha (vịnh Lan Hạ) that one-night guests never reach: Viet Hai village inside Cat Ba National Park, a lagoon for swimming, and often Ba Trai Dao beach. You come back to the main ship for dinner and a second night on the water.
The middle day is built around a separate day boat or speedboat. The schedule below follows the published 3D2N programmes of Peony, Mon Chéri and Elite of the Seas; other ships move the stops around but keep the same shape.
Tai chi on the sundeck, breakfastThe main ship stays at anchor
Transfer to the day boat or speedboatOne-night guests leave the ship the same morning
Land at Viet Hai wharfBicycle or electric cart into the village
Lunch on the day boatExact times vary by ship
Swim at a lagoon or near Ba Trai Dao beachKayaking only where it is permitted
Back on the main shipNew one-night guests have arrived
Dinner, on Elite a different menu from night 1Squid fishing after
Two honest notes. First, the day boat is often shared with guests from other ships or sister ships of the same company, so it can feel less private than the cruise itself. Second, on the morning of day 2 the one-night guests leave and new ones board at lunchtime, so the ship's mood changes halfway through your stay. Neither is a reason to skip the second night; both are worth knowing.
Viet Hai in one paragraph
Viet Hai is a village of about 87–90 households inside the core zone of Cat Ba National Park, with no road in. Boats land at its wharf, and you cover the last stretch by bicycle (about 50,000 VND per day if you hire one yourself) or by electric cart (about 150,000 VND one way). It has been a recognized community-tourism village since August 2025. More on Viet Hai village.
This is the biggest trap on this page. Several of the best-selling "3 Days Ninh Binh, Ha Long & Lan Ha Bay 5-Star Cruise" products on GetYourGuide are one day in Ninh Binh plus a 2D1N cruise. That means one night on the ship and one in a hotel, not two nights at sea. They can be good trips, with Ninh Binh's rice fields and a cruise in one package, but they are not what "Lan Ha Bay cruise 2 nights" means.
How to tell a true 3D2N cruise from a combo
If you do want both Ninh Binh and the bay, the combo is often the simpler buy. See Lan Ha from Ninh Binh and the land and sea tours for those options.

Lan Ha bay cruises 3days: kayak, bike, small group, Viet Hai
4.6 (25)from $285
Not every 3D2N spends the extra day in Lan Ha, and not every ship's 2D1N is Lan Ha at all. Here is what the published programmes show.
Both ships belong to Big Bay Group and run the same programme from lounge No. 34 at Tuan Chau. Day 1 is a swim at Tra Bau. Day 2 is a day boat to Viet Hai jetty, bike or electric cart into the village, lunch on board, then a swim at a lagoon near Ba Trai Dao, back at 16:30. Day 3 lands at Gia Luan for Trung Trang Cave on Cat Ba. Peony includes seven meals on the 3D2N. Neither line publishes prices; both quote per cabin on request.
Elite's 3D2N adds Viet Hai by speedboat with guided cycling or an electric car through the forest, then a beach swim, back early evening with a different dinner menu. The ship itself is a steel double hull launched in 2022, with 35 cabins that all have a balcony and bathtub. An agency lists the 3D2N from USD 495 per person.
The two sister ships share an office and lounge Lot 38 at Tuan Chau. Azura (launched December 2025, 30 cabins with bathtubs) adds Viet Hai fishing village on its 3D2N, from USD 760 per person on its own site with VAT and entrance tickets included. Aspira sells a 3D2N through Ha Long, Lan Ha and Cat Ba, plus versions with Ninh Binh or a hotel night in Hanoi, so read which one you are buying.
Heritage Line runs Ylang as a dedicated 2-night circuit: 10 suites, a wellness theme, from USD 837 per person on a current promotion. Day 1 cycles through Viet Hai; day 2 takes a bus through Cat Ba National Park with a hike, then an afternoon at a quiet beach; day 3 kayaks at Frog Lake. It refuses children under 5, charges the Lan Ha admission fee separately and has strict cancellation terms (100% within 15 days). Read our Ylang review.
Venezia is the Cat Ba option: two small boats of 10 and 5 cabins that board at Ben Beo near Cat Ba town and never go to Ha Long. Its GetYourGuide listing is billed as 2 nights on board; Venezia also sells a 3D2N that swaps the second night for a homestay in Viet Hai, and a version with Cat Ba trekking and a hotel night. Cabins are simple, with no balconies listed.
Orchid Luxury's 3D2N spends day 1 in Ha Long (Tien Ong Cave and Cua Van by bamboo boat) before Viet Hai and the Dark and Bright Caves on day 2. Arcady is Lan Ha only on its 3D2N: its 2D1N never leaves Ha Long. Hera's Boutique 3D2N is a Ha Long route, so pick another ship if Lan Ha is the goal.
On GetYourGuide, 3-day trips on this page start at $220–225 (the Ninh Binh combos), $266 for a 3-day 5-star cruise with Viet Hai cycling, and about $300 for 2-night cruises such as Venezia ($301) and a private-balcony listing ($305). All are "from" prices per person.
| Ship or product | Price per person | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Ninh Binh + 1-night cruise combos | from $220 | GetYourGuide |
| Venezia, 2 nights on board | from $301 | GetYourGuide |
| Elite of the Seas 3D2N | from USD 495 | agency |
| La Pandora 3D2N from Hanoi | USD 575 | official site |
| Azura 3D2N | from USD 760 | official site |
| Heritage Line Ylang, 2 nights | from USD 837 (promotion) | official site |
Agency price guides put most Lan Ha 3D2N cruises at about USD 280–600 per person. The second night usually costs close to a second full fare, because you pay for the cabin, the extra meals and the day boat. The overnight bay fee rises from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND per adult for two nights and is normally inside the price.
The cheapest 2-night option from Cat Ba itself is a local operator: Cat Ba Expedition sells a 3D2N Lan Ha and Ha Long trip for 8,500,000 VND per guest, with a 4% surcharge for online booking. Expect a simpler boat than the Tuan Chau ships.

Two real nights in Lan Ha, small boat
Venezia: billed as 2 nights on board, boards on Cat Ba, no Ha Long detour, Viet Hai and Ba Trai Dao. Few reviews so far on this listing, but the operator runs the same boats on its 2D1N.

Classic big-ship 3D2N with Viet Hai
A 3-day 5-star listing with Viet Hai cycling and a solid rating from about 600 reviews. It is sold by an agency, so confirm the ship name and two nights on board before you pay.

Ninh Binh and the bay in one booking
The best-selling combo: one day in Ninh Binh plus a 1-night cruise. Good value if you were going to Ninh Binh anyway; it is not two nights on the boat.

For bigger budgets, compare the named luxury ships in our luxury cruises guide before booking a generic "6-star" listing. "6-star" is a sales label: Vietnam's voluntary star rating for cruise ships stops at 5.
Yes, if Lan Ha is the main reason for your trip to north Vietnam. The middle day is the only part of a cruise that reaches Viet Hai and the quieter lagoons, and it takes the pressure off: you are not on a bus at 06:00 or back in Hanoi by mid-afternoon. It also gives you a second chance at good weather in the foggy months.
No, if you are short on time or budget. Two nights roughly double the cost, and part of day 2 is shared with other ships' guests on a day boat. If you are already staying on Cat Ba, a local day boat from Ben Beo plus a one-night cruise covers much of the same water for less.

Hanoi: 3-Day UNESCO Luxury Ha Long/Lan Ha & Ninh Binh Tour
4.5 (19)from $219
Storms. In storm season, roughly June to November, the port authorities can stop sailings at short notice. That hits a 3-day trip harder. Peony bills a 3D2N cut to 2D1N at the 2D1N rate; Heritage Line refunds 50% if a 2-night cruise is cut after the first night. Typical operator terms give a full refund if you have not sailed. Keep a buffer day before an international flight.
Season. October and November are the best months: the driest and sunniest, with the sea still around 25–28 °C. February to April bring drizzle and fog, so the second day is useful insurance. Domestic crowds peak around 30 April – 1 May, on summer weekends and at Tết (Lunar New Year). See the best time to visit.
Kayaking. Kayaking in the Cat Ba bays has been under an official suspension since Nov 2024, re-confirmed in late 2025. Some ships offer it only in a designated area or replace it with a bamboo boat, tender or swim. Ask the operator in writing. The original order was reported by VnExpress; more on kayaking in Lan Ha.
Life jackets. Since June 2026 every passenger on Lan Ha boats must wear a certified life jacket from boarding and throughout the trip (Tiền Phong). On a 3D2N that includes the day boat and every tender.
Cancelling. Direct terms are strict: Heritage Line charges fees from 45 days out and 100% within 15 days; Elite is free until 7 days before. Many platform listings allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before, which matters more on a longer, pricier trip. Our booking guide compares the platforms.
If the bay is the highlight of your trip, yes. The middle day is the only time a cruise reaches Viet Hai village and the quieter lagoons. If you are short on time, a 2 days 1 night cruise covers the main caves and the sunset.
Most ships send you out on a smaller day boat: Viet Hai village by bicycle or electric cart, lunch on board, then a lagoon or beach swim. You return to the main ship around 16:30 for dinner and the second night.
Usually not. Those combos are one day in Ninh Binh plus a 1-night cruise, so you sleep one night on board and one in a hotel. Read the day-by-day itinerary to check.
Platform 3-day trips start from about $220 per person (Ninh Binh combos) and $301 for a true 2-night cruise. Named ships cost about USD 495–837 per person, and agency guides put most at USD 280–600.
Most ships take children: usually under 4 free (one per cabin) and about 75% up to age 11. Heritage Line does not accept children under 5.
