Paradise Grand Cruise review: Paradise Vietnam's only Lan Ha Bay ship

Paradise Grand is a 39-cabin steel ship, launched in 2020, and the only Paradise Vietnam vessel that sails Lan Ha Bay. A speedboat from Tuan Chau skips the slow Ha Long crossing. It is a well-specified large ship, but it is sold mainly direct, on a per-cabin price.

Paradise Grand Cruise is the Lan Ha Bay ship of Paradise Vietnam, a company whose first boat dates to 2008, and it is a sound choice for travellers who want a large, steel, balcony-cabin ship with a clear Lan Ha route. The key point for anyone searching "Paradise cruise Lan Ha": only the Grand sails Lan Ha. Paradise Legacy and Paradise Elegance sail Ha Long.

The ship and cabins

Paradise Grand was unveiled on 25 January 2020 as "the first of two Paradise Grand vessels"; only one is sold today. Trade press gives it as steel, five decks, 70 m long, 39 cabins. The official page lists four cabin types, all with a balcony:

Cabin Size Notes
Grand Balcony 28 m² Main deck, shower only
Executive Grand Balcony 28 m² Upper deck
Grand Balcony Suite 35 m² Terrace, bathtub
Captain's View Grand Suite 35 m² Front-facing terrace, bathtub

On board: a spa, a Jacuzzi and a 450 m² sundeck for up to 120 guests with an outdoor cinema. The official spec mentions no pool. If a bathtub matters to you, book a suite: the entry cabins have showers.

The Paradise fleet: which ship sails where

Paradise product Type Bay
Paradise Grand 2D1N cruise Lan Ha
Paradise Legacy 2D1N cruise, 42 cabins Ha Long
Paradise Elegance 2D1N and 3D2N, 31 cabins Ha Long (Sung Sot, Ti Top)
Paradise Delight 4- or 7-hour day or dinner cruise Not Lan Ha (not sold as a Lan Ha product)
Paradise Explorer Private day cruise Ha Long

Paradise Sails and Paradise Peak, which older guides list, are no longer on the official product menu. If a reseller offers "Paradise" for Lan Ha, make sure the ship named is the Grand. For the difference between the bays see Lan Ha vs Ha Long.

The route: two Lan Ha programmes by season

Guests check in at Tuan Chau Marina in Ha Long, where Paradise has its own office, and a speedboat meets Paradise Grand near Gia Luan harbour on north Cat Ba. That means less time crossing Ha Long waters than on ships that sail the whole way from Tuan Chau.

Paradise runs two 2D1N variants:

  • Summer: Day 1 at the Dark and Bright Caves; Day 2 at Ao Ech (Frog Lake), where the programme lists kayaking and stand-up paddle.
  • Winter: Day 1 at Viet Hai village on Cat Ba; Day 2 at the Dark and Bright Caves.

Kayaking in the Cat Ba bays has been under an official suspension since November 2024, re-confirmed in late 2025. Ao Ech is the one area where kayaking is reported to continue, but even that is unconfirmed. Ask Paradise in writing what runs on your date. The winter programme is the better one if you care about land: Viet Hai is a car-free village inside the national park, reached by bicycle or electric car.

A day aboard

Paradise does not publish an hour-by-hour plan for the Grand on the pages we checked. The usual Lan Ha 2D1N structure applies: check-in around midday, lunch on board, one main excursion in the afternoon, sunset and dinner, then a short excursion and brunch on Day 2 before you are back at Tuan Chau around noon. Day 2 is effectively half a morning. See 2 days 1 night cruises for a typical timetable.

Prices: direct per cabin

Paradise quotes Paradise Grand from $300 per cabin (two guests) for a 2D1N. Remember that most Lan Ha prices are quoted per person, so compare like with like: luxury Lan Ha ships mostly start at $155–225 per person. The official pages do not publish the shuttle price or the child policy, so ask for an all-in quote including the Hanoi transfer and any holiday surcharge.

Paradise Grand is not sold under its own name on the main platforms we track. Same-class ships you can book there:

What travelers should check

We have no reliable pattern of guest feedback to report from our sources, so focus on the things that differ between ships:

  1. Season and programme: summer (caves + Ao Ech) or winter (Viet Hai + caves).
  2. Cabin: a suite if you want a bathtub or a front-facing terrace.
  3. Transfers: the Hanoi shuttle price and the speedboat meeting point.
  4. Kayak status on your date.
  5. Passport: Paradise requires your passport number and Vietnam visa expiry at least 24 hours before check-in.

How to book and cancel

Booking direct with Paradise, individual bookings (under 7 cabins) pay a 30% deposit. Cancellation is free more than 7 days before departure, 50% from 7 to 3 days, and 100% inside 72 hours. That is more generous than many Lan Ha lines, which start charging 14–45 days out, but stricter than the 24-hour free cancellation common on platform listings.

Storm cancellations are ordered by the port authority. Ask Paradise how it handles a departure cancelled for weather before you pay the deposit. More in how to book.

Alternatives

  • Azura: 30 cabins, launched December 2025, bathtubs in every cabin, Tuan Chau Lot 38, bookable on Klook from $176.

  • Elite of the Seas: 35 cabins, launched 2022, from $125 on GetYourGuide.
  • Capella: 30 cabins with pools and a waterslide, from USD 490 per cabin direct.
