Hera Cruises review: which Hera ship actually sails Lan Ha

Hera Cruises runs a big day boat and two small overnight ships from Tuan Chau in Ha Long. The day cruise is sold as Ha Long and Lan Ha, but both 2D1N overnights are Ha Long routes: if Lan Ha is your goal, pick the 3D2N or a sister ship from the same group.

Hera Cruises is worth booking for its day cruise and its 3-day trip, but not as a one-night Lan Ha cruise: the Boutique and Grand 2D1N programmes stay in Ha Long Bay. That is the key fact many listings blur, because most platform titles mention both bays.

Pros

  • Large, well-reviewed day boat at a low platform price
  • Small overnight ships (11–19 cabins) with Vietnamese cultural shows
  • Hanoi bus costs only about USD 44 more than boarding in Ha Long
  • Same group runs Amanda and Le Journey, which sail Lan Ha

Cons

  • Boutique and Grand 2D1N are Ha Long routes, not Lan Ha
  • Day-cruise route not published on the official site
  • Cabin count for Hera Grand differs between sources (11 or 13)
  • A similarly named Malta company uses heracruises.com

The Hera ships and cabins

Hera Group, based at 2B Nha Hoa St in Hanoi, lists three Hera vessels:

  • Hera Grand Luxury Cruise, the small luxury ship. Hera Group gives 13 cabins; an agency gives 11 (Junior 35 m² without balcony and with a standing shower, Ocean 45 m², and Earth and Heaven suites of 60 m²). The same agency says it began sailing in July 2017.
  • Hera Classic Boutique Cruise, sold on the site as "Hera Boutique", with 19 cabins.
  • Hera Luxury Day Cruise, a day boat for up to 200 guests.

The official site advertises extras you rarely see elsewhere: a lion dance, making floating rice cakes, a gala dinner on the sundeck, a costume show called "Footsteps of Heritage" and a free herbal foot bath.

The route: Ha Long, Lan Ha or both?

This is where a booker needs care. On Hera's own site, the Boutique products are titled "2-Day Halong Bay with Titop Island & Luon Cave" and "3-Day Halong Bay with Ba Trai Dao Beach & Pearl Museum". An agency describes the Hera Grand 2D1N the same way: Ti Top, Luon Cave and Sung Sot, all in Ha Long. Lan Ha stops (the Dark and Bright Caves and Ba Trai Dao beach, plus a pearl farm) appear only on the 3D2N.

So a Hera 2D1N is a classic Ha Long loop. That is not a bad trip, but it is not Lan Ha, and the platform listings that say "Ha Long Bay & Lan Ha Bay" mostly describe the 3-day trip or the day cruise. For the difference between the two bays, see Lan Ha vs Ha Long.

The Hera Luxury Day Cruise is sold on Klook, GetYourGuide and Trip.com as a Ha Long and Lan Ha day trip, some listings with a water slide and kayaking. The official day-cruise page currently lists no tours, so the operator does not publish the route itself. Read the itinerary on the listing you book. Since 1 April 2026, day ships from Ha Long can legally run into Lan Ha on the new joint routes, which makes such a day trip plausible.

Hera Cruises prices: direct vs platforms

Hera's official site shows "from" prices in USD per person:

Product From Ha Long From Hanoi
Hera Boutique 2D1N USD 295 USD 339
Hera Boutique 3D2N USD 579 USD 625

The Hanoi bus adds about USD 44 per person. An agency lists Hera Grand cabins from USD 285 (Junior) to USD 535 (Heaven) and quotes the Hanoi shuttle at USD 20 per person return, or USD 35 by limousine van. The official Grand and day-cruise pages currently show no prices.

On the platforms, Hera is much cheaper on the headline price. The day cruise starts at $58–65, the Boutique 2D1N is from $146 on Klook and from $162 on GetYourGuide, the Grand 2D1N from $197, and the Boutique 3D2N from $315 on GetYourGuide. Cabin type, transfers and dates differ, so compare like with like.

What travelers should check

Hera's listings are spread across three ships and many titles, so confirm these points before you pay:

  • The ship name on the voucher: Boutique, Grand or Day. They are very different products.
  • The route in the day-by-day itinerary: look for the Dark and Bright Caves or Ba Trai Dao for Lan Ha; Ti Top, Luon and Sung Sot are Ha Long.
  • The cabin. On Hera Grand, the agency lists the Junior cabin without a balcony.
  • Holiday nights. Hera adds surcharges at Christmas, New Year and Tết (Lunar New Year).
  • Food allergies must be notified 24 hours ahead.

Booking and cancelling

Hera's terms say boarding is before 12:00 at Tuan Chau International Marina, with the lounge confirmed on booking; the day cruise leaves from Lot 16. Hanoi pickups are at 2B Nha Hoa St. Children under 4 travel free (one per cabin; a second under-4 pays 50%), ages 4–8 pay 75% and from 9 they pay the adult fare.

A no-show costs 100%, and refunds take 7–14 business days. If the authorities cancel a sailing for weather, Hera refunds or reschedules minus services already used. An agency lists Hera Grand cancellation as free more than 30 days out, then 15%, 30% and 100% inside 7 days. Platform bookings follow each listing's own terms, often more flexible. See how to book a Lan Ha cruise and GetYourGuide vs Klook.
