La Regina cruise review: Grand, Legend, Royal and Classic explained

La Regina Grand is the La Regina ship that sails Lan Ha Bay: 27 balcony suites, check-in at Tuan Chau Lot 24, Dark and Bright Cave by bamboo boat. "La Regina Legend" is very likely the same ship under its older name. La Regina Classic sails Bai Tu Long, not Lan Ha.

The La Regina cruise in Lan Ha Bay is the La Regina Grand: a 27-suite ship in 1930s Indochina style that checks in at Tuan Chau and spends its time in Lan Ha. Our verdict: a solid mid-to-upper ship on a classic Lan Ha route, held back by a confusing fleet, no published prices, and a copycat website that you must avoid.

  • Dark and Bright Cave by crew-rowed bamboo boat on day 1
  • Longer Ao Ech stop and a "Secret Lagoon" added from 1 April 2026
  • Sold under its own name on Klook, with over 1,000 bookings

Cons

  • Four ship names for what may be three ships
  • La Regina Classic (Bai Tu Long) is easy to book by mistake
  • No published prices on the official site
  • A clone site, lareginacruise.com, imitates the operator
  • Kayak stops depend on the kayak suspension

La Regina ships: which one sails Lan Ha?

The official site, lareginacruises.com, lists three ships and a day boat. Only one of them is clearly a Lan Ha ship:

Ship Bay Departs from Notes
La Regina Grand Lan Ha Tuan Chau, Lot 24 27 suites, all with balcony
La Regina Legend Lan Ha Tuan Chau, Lot 24 not in the official fleet list; very likely the Grand
La Regina Royal not stated not stated suites Noble, Imperial (26 m²) and Grand Royal (35 m²) per agency
La Regina Classic Bai Tu Long Ha Long International Cruise Port (Bai Chay) not a Lan Ha product

Legend vs Grand. The official fleet menu no longer shows La Regina Legend, but a notice on the same site from 31 March 2026 still mentions it. Agencies describe Legend with the same 27 balcony cabins, the same Lot 24 at Tuan Chau and an itinerary that names "La Regina Grand" in the text. Our reading: they are very likely the same ship, but the operator has not confirmed a rename. Ask when you book. Do not confuse either with Lan Ha Legend, a small Cat Ba boat that no longer trades.

Classic is Bai Tu Long. La Regina Classic visits Thien Canh Son cave and Vung Vieng fishing village in Bai Tu Long Bay, north-east of Ha Long, from the Bai Chay port. The GetYourGuide listing "La Regina 4 star cruise - Bai Tu Long Bay" is this ship. It may be a fine trip, but it is not Lan Ha. Read Lan Ha vs Ha Long for how the bays differ.

The Grand: suites and ship

The Grand has 27 suite cabins, all with a private balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows, in a 1930s Indochina design. The official site gives no cabin sizes. For Legend, an agency lists Princess Suite and Princess Premium at 45 m², Queen Triple at 54 m² and a Queen Regent Suite of 135 m², with room rates from $330 (Princess) to $600 (Queen Regent). If those figures are right, the Queen Regent costs less than twice a standard suite for three times the space, one of the better-value big suites on Lan Ha.

A spa is on board (extra charge). The official pages do not mention a pool.

You check in at the Welcome Lounge, Lot 24, Tuan Chau Marina in Ha Long, and take a tender to the ship, which serves lunch as it sails into Lan Ha (vịnh Lan Hạ). The cave on day 1 and the Tra Bau stop on day 2 are both Lan Ha sights.

What changed on 1 April 2026. La Regina announced a longer stop at Ao Ech (Frog Lake) for kayaking or swimming, a new tide-dependent "Secret Lagoon" stop with kayaking through tunnels, and a longer sunset happy hour with live music. The operator says routes are fixed by maritime permits. The 3D2N uses the La Regina Day Cruise boat on day 2, with Viet Hai cycling that now includes an old house and herbal tea; see 3-day cruises.

La Regina cruise price

The official site shows "Contact" instead of prices. On the platforms:

  • Klook sells the Lan Ha ship as "Lan Ha, Ha Long Bay Overnight Cruise Tour by La Regina Legend Cruise" from $176 per person, rated 4.7 from 68 reviews, with more than 1,000 bookings.
  • GetYourGuide sells La Regina Classic (Bai Tu Long) from $132, rated 4.0 from 12 reviews. The price is lower, but it is a different ship in a different bay, so it is not a fair comparison.
  • HalongBayTours.com, a Hanoi agency, lists La Regina Grand from $160 per person and La Regina Legend as "check price".

La Regina Grand on GetYourGuide →La Regina Grand on Klook →Prices checked on October 16, 2026

The official fare includes the guide, balcony suite, meals, kayak, rowing boat, cave visit, sightseeing entrance fees, a welcome drink and two bottles of water per suite. Transport, spa, drinks and tips are extra. The limousine from Hanoi is offered, but its price is not published.

Agency terms for Legend: one child under 4 free, 4–11 years 75%, 12 and over adult rate. The same agency lists both "10% VAT and 5% service excluded" and prices that appear to include them, so ask for a final total in writing.

What travelers should check

Klook shows 68 reviews and more than 1,000 bookings for the Lan Ha product. We do not quote individual reviews. One Vietnamese newspaper once criticised La Regina Legend for advertising as a Ha Long cruise while licensed on the Cat Ba bays (Báo Văn Hóa); for you as a traveler, that confirms the ship's real bay is Lan Ha. Before paying, check that your voucher says Grand (or Legend) and Lot 24 Tuan Chau, not Classic and Bai Chay.

How to book and cancel

An agency lists these terms for Legend: free cancellation more than 30 days out, 15% from 30 to 11 days, 30% from 10 to 7 days, 100% inside 7 days. Platforms set their own terms per product; Klook's differ from activity to activity, so read the cancellation box before paying. See how to book and GetYourGuide vs Klook.

Storm cancellations are ordered by the port authorities, not by the cruise line; refunds follow the seller's terms. From June to November keep a buffer day before flights (best time to visit).
