HalongBayTours.com is worth using as a catalogue and, for some ships, as a place to book. It is a real, licensed Hanoi operator, its Lan Ha list is the most complete in English, and for a few brands its "from" price is lower than any platform's. Where it falls short is flexibility: cancellation follows each cruise line's rules, which are much stricter than the free 24-hour cancellation many platform listings give.

- 5/553 ships on the Lan Ha list, with pier, cabins and route
- Transparency about the company
- 4/5operator, address and licence published
- Value
- 3/5cheaper than platforms for Capella, Rosy and Erina; dearer for La Pandora and Elite

- Review scores
- 3/5clear format, but the method is not explained
Pros
- Licensed Hanoi tour operator with a published address and licence
- A long English-language list of Lan Ha ships, from budget boats to Heritage Line Ylang
- Ship pages show pier, cabins, route and the supplier's cancellation schedule
- Lower "from" prices than the platforms for several ships
Cons
- Prices usually exclude the Hanoi transfer, so headline fares look cheaper than they are
- Cancellation follows each cruise line, often with fees 30 days out
- No refund when weather only changes the itinerary
- Review-score method not published, and some agency pages keep reviews after a ship is renamed
Who runs HalongBayTours.com
HalongBayTours.com describes itself as a cruise and tour booking service of Blue Dragon Tours, at 72 Hang Trong Street in Hoan Kiem, Hanoi. It holds international tour operator licence 001-500/TCDL and is a PATA member. Its about page shows a team of staff profiles and Tripadvisor Certificates of Excellence from 2017 to 2024, but no founding year.
It is a sales agency, not a cruise line and not an official body. It sells cruises run by other companies, at prices and terms those companies set, and adds its own service.
The Lan Ha list: how many ships
The site's header claims "over 100 multi-day cruises". Its Lan Ha page shows 53 ships before "show more", grouped as luxury, mid-range and budget rather than by stars. That list includes less familiar names such as Lyra Grandeur, Nostalgia, Venus, Halora Nova, Diana and Mila Grand, and also ships whose status we could not confirm: Era is still listed with a score but "check price". It does not show several brands that appear on other sites, such as Doris, Dora, Azalea, Verdure Lotus or Lan Ha Legend.
The agency also states that no Lan Ha overnight cruises currently leave from Hai Phong. That matches what we see: most big Lan Ha lines check in at Tuan Chau in Ha Long. See the piers guide.
Prices compared with the platforms
HalongBayTours.com shows per-person "from" prices for a 2D1N, and says 2D1N Lan Ha cruises run from about USD 135 to over 400, and 3D2N about 280 to 600. Its prices usually exclude transport from Hanoi; platform listings often include a shuttle. Compare totals, not headlines.
| Ship (2D1N, from) | HalongBayTours.com | Klook | GetYourGuide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capella | $195 | $472 | $358 |
| Rosy | $145 | $178 | $201 |
| Erina | $145 | $150 | $158 |
| Aspira | $150 | $146 | — |
| La Pandora | $140 | $104 | $171 |
| Azura | $205 | $176 | $309 |
| Elite of the Seas | $245 | — | $125 |
For Capella, Rosy and Erina the agency's headline price was lower today; for La Pandora, Azura and Elite of the Seas a platform was cheaper. Elite is the extreme case: from $125 on GetYourGuide against $245 on the agency list, which also ran a $315 promotion including the transfer. Add a Hanoi shuttle (typically USD 35–40 return on agency ships) before you compare. See the Capella review and Elite of the Seas review.
| Platform | Listing | Rating | Price | Where |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Klook | 2D1N Ha Long & Lan Ha Bay Cruise Tour by La Pandora Cruise · 2D1N | 4.8 (939) | $104 Lowest | See on Klook |

Payment, cancellation and weather
- Payment: full payment or a 30–50% deposit; full payment if you book within 7 days; balance at least 3 days before you arrive in Vietnam.
- Card fee: 3% on card payments of USD 300 or more.
- Cancellation: set by each supplier and printed on each cruise page. For Peony and Elite through the agency: free more than 30 days out, 15% at 30–11 days, 30% at 10–7 days, 100% inside 7 days.
- Weather: if force majeure cancels a tour before it starts, a full refund; if during the trip, a partial one. There is no refund when weather or tide only changes the itinerary.
This is the main difference from GetYourGuide or Klook, where many listings allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before. If you travel between June and November, when storms can stop all sailings, a flexible platform booking is safer. How to book compares the terms in detail.
The review scores
Each ship shows a decimal score with a word and a review count, such as "9.7 Excellent | 339 reviews" for Peony. The scale appears to be out of 10, but the site does not say how the score is calculated or whether reviews are verified. Many newer ships show "No rating".
One caution applies to every agency site, not only this one: when a ship is renamed, the old page and its reviews may be re-pointed to the new name. On this site the old Doris and Dora addresses now show other ships, with older reviews that still mention the old names. Read the review dates. Our operators overview lists the renamed brands.
When to book here, and when not
Book with HalongBayTours.com when the ship you want is not on GetYourGuide, Klook or Trip.com, when its price there is clearly lower after adding the transfer, or when you need help with a private charter, a special request or a multi-ship comparison. Book on a platform when the same ship is cheaper there, when free cancellation matters, or when you travel in storm season. See GetYourGuide vs Klook for the platforms.
Alternatives to compare: Klook's Lan Ha cruises, GetYourGuide's Lan Ha listings and the cruise finder, which shows each ship's lowest price on every platform.
